Marion E. Wade Center
The Marion E. Wade Center at Wheaton College is a place where people come to learn and explore the life and writings of some of history’s most celebrated authors and theologians. Located on Wheaton College's picturesque campus, this center houses an extensive collection of rare books, manuscripts, audio-visual materials, and more – all centered around seven significant figures in Christian thought: C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, Dorothy Sayers, George MacDonald, G.K. Chesterton, Owen Barfield and Charles Williams.
The Center was established in 1966 by Wheaton alumnus Dr John Stott in honor of his former professor Marion E Wade — an Oxford scholar who taught at Wheaton College from 1928 to 1962. The Center is dedicated to preserving and furthering the study of these authors, their faith and impact on literature, theology, culture and more. As part of this mission, the Center has established a wide variety of publications, programs and events which help bring awareness to their work. Get more info.
The Marion E. Wade Center also offers educational visits for students ranging from elementary school to college level — providing an opportunity for students to learn about the life experiences of these authors first-hand in a unique setting that includes original manuscripts, recordings and other memorabilia collected over the years by Wheaton College faculty members. Visits are customized for each group so that everyone can get the most out of their experience. Students will learn about the authors’ lives, their thoughts on faith, and the impact their works have had on popular culture.
